Practical Sessions on Estate Planning and the Executor Role
My workshops and talks help people understand estate planning, incapacity planning and the executor role, in plain language, for families, professionals and community organizations.
Tailored to Your Group
Every session is practical, and I adjust each one to the group and what they already know, whether you’re hosting a financial planning event, a community seminar or a professional development session.
Formats Available
- One-hour talks on key estate planning and executor topics, followed by a 30-minute Q&A
- Workshops for families who want guidance and a structured way to begin planning conversations
- Half-day workshops for groups, organizations or community programs
- A series of sessions for ongoing education
- Panel discussions or themed events
All formats include handouts and time for questions.
Talks I’ve Given
How to Be Dead Responsibly is my favourite talk to give. It’s about why estate planning is really about life, not death. It covers what happens when there’s no plan, the documents every adult should have, and how a plan can spare the people you love unnecessary stress, conflict and cost.
Other talks include:
- On Your Terms: A Practical Conversation About Planning Ahead
- What Don’t I Know? A Practical Conversation About Planning Ahead and Will Writing
- Aging By Design, on downsizing, future planning and end of life
- Future Proof Your Life, on preparing for life’s transitions
- Conversation Cafe sessions on estate planning
Some of these I’ve presented alongside other professionals from my referral network. Past hosts include the Bow Cliff Seniors 50+ Learning Cafe, the Okotoks Public Library, Wellings of Calgary and the Copperwood community in Calgary.
Who These Sessions Are For
- Families and small groups who want help starting planning conversations or learning how to prepare together
- Community groups and seniors’ residences hosting events on caregiving or planning ahead
- HR or employee wellness programs offering life planning education
- Estate lawyers, funeral homes or retirement planners offering educational sessions for clients
- Financial professionals offering learning opportunities to their clients
Why It Matters
Many people don’t plan because they don’t know where to start, or nobody’s explained why it matters to them. These sessions take topics like estate planning, estate administration and powers of attorney, and explain them in a way people can relate to and act on.
People leave with a clearer idea of their next steps and some useful tools to get started.
